Microbial Reduction of Phosphate ?

چکیده

Introduction Phosphorus is found in all parts of the biosphere and occurs most commonly in the form of phosphates in which the P-atom has an oxidation state of +5. Though phosphorus can exist in a range of oxidation states from +5 to -3, it is generally observed that it remains in the +5 state in natural transformations (Fenchel and Blackburn 1979). The biological phosphorus cycle thus appears to be relatively simple, lacking both a gaseous phase and the reduced oxidation states found in the nitrogen and sulphur cycles.

Biological Removal of phosphate from Synthetic Wastewater Using Bacterial Consortium

The biological phosphorus removal is a microbial process widely used for removing phosphorus fromwastewater to avoid eutrophication of water bodies. The study was aimed to screen the efficient phosphatereducing isolates and used to remove phosphate from synthetic wastewater using batch scale process. Thethree most efficient phosphate reducers were isolated and screened from eu...

The Conversion of Inorganic Phosphorus Fractions, Phosphatase Activity, and Some Biological Properties in Sandy Soil Enriched with Minerals, Organic Matter, and Microbial Modifiers under Two Months of Incubation

This study investigated the effect of the inoculation of the soil with some phosphorus solubilizing microorganisms (PSM) on inorganic P fractions in sandy soil enriched with inorganic and organic amendments. A factorial experiment arrangement was performed in a completely randomized design with three replications, using two factors: microorganisms (control, Entrobacter cloacae, Brevundimonas, a...

Inhibition of microbial arsenate reduction by phosphate.

The ratio of arsenite (As(III)) to arsenate (As(V)) in soils and natural waters is often controlled by the activity of As-transforming microorganisms. Phosphate is a chemical analog to As(V) and, consequently, may competitively inhibit microbial uptake and enzymatic binding of As(V), thus preventing its reduction to the more toxic, mobile, and bioavailable form - As(III). Five As-transforming b...

Investigation of Physicochemical and Microbial Parameters of Doogh River Water and the Effect of Adjacent Felman Wells on Decreasing These Parameters in Kalaleh city During 2012-2016

Background: Water resource management in order to preserving and supplying of high-quality water, plays an important role on communities health. For this reason, humans have always used different methods to provide high-quality water. One of these methods is the use of Radial Collector wells. In this study, the effect of Radial Collector wells on the microbial and physicochemical quality of Doo...

Influence of Phosphorus and Cell Geometry on the Fractionation of Sulfur Isotopes by Several Species of Desulfovibrio during Microbial Sulfate Reduction

We investigated the influence of organic substrates and phosphate concentration on the rates of dissimilatory microbial sulfate reduction and the 34S/32S isotopic fractionation produced by several Desulfovibrio species. Our experiments corroborate the previously reported species-specific correlation between sulfur isotope fractionation and cell-specific sulfate reduction rates. We also identify...

Investigating the Effect of Phosphate Solubilizing Microorganisms of Insoluble Phosphorus on Phosphorus Acquisition and Utilization Efficiency in Corn (Zea mays L.)

In order to investigate P acquisition efficiency (PACE) and P utilization efficiency (PUTE) of the corn in the presence of phosphate-solubilizing microorganisms (PSMs), a factorial experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design in the greenhouse. The factors were including P sources (tricalcium phosphate (TCP) and rock phosphate (RP)) and microbial inoculation (control, soluble P ...
